Fat Burning Zone

There is extensive research done into what is the best way of burning fat. For years, the common wisdom seemed to dictate that low-intensity cardiovascular exercise for prolonged periods of time on a regular basis was the best way to burn off excess fat.

However, in recent years, there has been a move toward High Intensity Interval Training, as it has been proved by researchers to burn off more fat in a shorter period of time than low intensity training.

To get into this fat burning zone, you will need to do around 20 minutes of high intensity interval training at least three times a week. The trick is to get your heart rate up to almost its theoretical max, and then come down to a comfortable pace and repeat the cycle until your twenty minutes is through.

To work out your max heart rate (MHR), deduct your age from 220. This will give you the theoretical max heart rate that you should be aiming for 90% of during your high intensity interval training sessions.
